this post is completely self serving and it feels really good to do so. I was fortunate to be asked a few months back to be the subject of a documentary on Circuit Bending. The kids who shot it were awesome, and I had a lot of fun doing it. so for your viewing pleasure here it is.
also the link is here. if you feel so inclined the director Alex would appreciate votes.

Bebot!!!!
I don't often discuss Iphone apps, but my a friend Andrew sent me a link to this, and I had to post it. now i love my Iphone, and for all the practical reasons why it is a great piece of technology, it is the versatility of its interface that has made me really come to love it as a machine. now as far as apps go there are some wonderful ones. Brian Eno's "Bloom", the Tr 606, 707, 808, 909 emulator, Recorder, just to name a few. But this video has gotten me really excited. it is a new multi touch polyphonic synth called bebot. For fans of Dream Theater the demo is done by the bands keyboardist Jordan Rudess. enjoy the demo, and if you have an Iphone get some music apps, they bring joy, and can be great sketch pads.

new toy

so today i got to show my friend Jason how to circuit bend, and i'm pretty proud of what we did. it took us 5 hours from start to finish, and by the end of it I think i managed to get someone else addicted to modulating toys.
plus i got to try a new strategy:
pitch and speed is controlled by either a pot, or one of two photocells. we mounted on cell on the outside of the toy to use room light to control pitch and speed. the other photocell we mounted inside the reflector housing for the LEDs, so it creates some strange pitch, speed, light feedback loop. a switch changes between the to photocells.
here are some photos to show off what we did.

finger beats to make you bounce
as i look back on the the short history of this little blog of mine i am seeing a pattern evolve. Lots of posted about modified electronics! most of them are fun video's i've found of other people doing crazy shit, and occasionally i put up some pictures of my projects, or post a new piece i recently finished. not that any of this is a bad thing, it just occurred to me that i should probably post about the other cool things i find. and so here is a little diddy complients of Anticon Records. one of my favorite labels currently in operation.
it features one of the founding members Jel. I posted this particular video because when i'm not gutting keyboards I am practicing using My Mpc as a live instrument, and Jel is almost more then human when it comes to his live skills. so watch, learn, repeat. and enjoy.

its been too long.
so its been a little over a month since i last posted. and during that time i have been hard at work, traveling, editing, and sadly not posting. so here is an update. a taste of some of what i have been up to.
first off we have a new track i just finished a day or two ago. i was created by cutting up samples of a trip a took a few years back to india, and uses drum samples from Dhaki drums, my circuit bent dd-20, and some acoustic drums. its called "bolly" and i hope you like it.

my second little diddy to show, is a sneak preview track from my upcoming release on dog eared records , a great little net label contributing some wonderful work to the world. the piece is the title track from the ep call "the drummer boy". the ep as a whole is going to be a collision of rhythms, textures, and noise. i hope you enjoy.

this is another opportunity for shameless self promotion. My work has been profiled as part of sitting now weekly podcast. I've been shown in the segment entitled "Myspace Heros". Both the site and the podcast deal with a variety of topics ranging from music, literature, technology, overall is a melting pot of awesome.
One of the site's contrubuting memebers Daddy Tank scours myspace to find artists he deems interesting. And as luck would have it he found my work fit his bill. So please check out the links and enjoy.
